Welcome to Bucktail Guide Service (BGS). When I started BGS. I believed all fly-fishers should be given the opportunity to increase their skills, gain confidence in their casting ability and to be provided the opportunity to use those skills to fish in waters that hold big fish. Years later, our purpose has not changed. Our mission is to teach people to fish better, and smarter with more consistency. Whether you are a beginner fly fisher or a seasoned expert, we want you to learn how to fly fish these great waters while taking time to absorb all the beauty that surrounds you. Bucktail Guide Service is a full-service fly fishing guiding company. We offer 4 types of guided fly fishing trips: Drift, Wade, Remote Canoe, and Motor Boat. Each will be tailored to match your abilities and meet your needs. If you like to fly fish a remote stream, we will hike there. If you like to fly fish a remote pond, we will boat there. If you like to access some stream from a road, we can do that too. All full-day fly fishing trips include rods (if you need them), flies and a noon meal. You will need to provide transportation to a pick-up location and all the other normal fly fishing equipment. If this is your first time, upon scheduling your trip, I will provide you a list of mandatory fly fishing equipment. Our home waters are in western Maine, such as the Magalloway, Rapid, Kennebago, Kennebec, east Outlet and the Rangeley River. Speaking of fly fishing for the first time, we offer Learn to Fly Fish package. This is a great plan for for anyone with an interest to learn this sport. This introductory course covers all the topics necessary to get you fly fishing. We will cover the fly rod and rigging, basic equipment, knots, flies, reading a stream, casting and more. Class room time is about 3 hours. The best thing about this course is, you will go FISHING! This course will provide you with knowledge and skills that will add to the enjoyment of your fly fishing adventures for years to come. If teaching you to be a better fisher is our mission, it must include challenging you to become a good steward of all the waters you fishing on, and that starts with becoming involved. BGS donates 5% of our annual profit to clean water/fisheries restoration through organizations such as Trout's Unlimited.
