Dr. Josh McNaughton Born and raised in the heart of Maine, Dr. Josh McNaughton developed a deep appreciation for fishing, hunting, and the outdoors at an early age. Introduced to Maine's woods and waters by his family, Josh has spent a lifetime exploring the state's lakes, rivers, ponds, and wilderness areas. At age 18, Josh became a licensed Maine Whitewater Guide, leading rafting trips throughout the state during his early college years. He later earned his Maine Trip Leader certification, guiding canoe expeditions across Maine's waterways, and served as a Loon Specialist with the Maine Audubon Society, helping educate the public about Maine's iconic wildlife and natural resources. Education & Conservation Background Josh combines extensive outdoor experience with a strong academic foundation in wildlife and environmental education. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Maine, Orono, with a concentration in education. He later returned to earn a Master's degree in Environmental Science Education, specializing in field research and environmental stewardship. After beginning a successful career in education and public service, Josh completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of New England, with a specialization in instructional coaching. Today, Josh resides in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and serves as Director of the Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative. He also teaches courses on wildlife habitat management, food plot development, and outdoor conservation practices. On the Water With more than 40 years of fishing experience, Josh is a passionate angler who pursues many of Maine's most sought-after game fish, including landlocked salmon, brook trout, lake trout, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass. His experience spans remote ponds, large lakes, flowing rivers, and ice-covered waters throughout the state. Beyond fishing, Josh brings extensive experience in canoeing, kayaking, wilderness travel, and river float trips. He is also known for sharing authentic Maine outdoor traditions, including preparing classic campfire meals that make every trip feel like a true North Woods adventure.
