Mike grew up in Millinocket in the shadow of Mt Katahdin. Baxter State Park was the playground his parents introduced him to at an early age. He has hiked, fished, hunted, foraged for wild edibles, and explored the Katahdin area inside and surrounding BSP. He and his wife raised their two children west of the town of Patten during the school year and at the rustic, off grid camp on Millinocket lake during summers off from their teaching jobs. In 1997 Mike began working as seasonal ranger at Abol Campground in Baxter. He would work at Abol, Katahdin Stream, and Nesowadnehunk Field campgrounds for ten years while continuing to teach and coach at the middle and high school levels. After teaching middle school students for 26 years Mike decided to switch gears and left that profession and his seasonal position as a campground Ranger to become a full time law enforcement Ranger with Baxter State Park. He supervised staff at South Branch Pond, Nesowadnehunk Field, and Trout Brook Farm campgrounds as well as gatehouse staff at Matagamon Gate on the north end of the park. He promoted to the position of Senior Field Supervisor overseeing the Supervisory rangers throughout the whole park until his retirement in 2019. During his tenure with Baxter, Mike has worked, hiked, and patrolled extensively throughout all areas of the Park. Mike has successfully fished with his family, friends and some clients for Brook trout, Brown trout, Atlantic and Landlocked Salmon, Striped Bass, and Bluefish in Maine and Canada. He has also pursued Cutthroat, Rainbows, Steelhead, Bull Trout,and Kokanee throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington, California, Wyoming and Montana. Mike also has spent a lifetime pursuing upland game birds, whitetail deer, and for the last ten or more years Wild Turkey. Mike is passionate about wildlife and nature. He works with his clients to tailor make a memorable experience based on their capabilities and expectations.
